Gearing up to sell your home soon? Moira V., a real estate expert based in Windham, has the best advice on how to prep your house for the spring market!

Moira has spent over five successful years working in real estate, all of which she has spent demonstrating a clear aptitude for selling and finding homes, whether they be on the coast or in the city.

Prior to working in the real estate industry, Moira worked in the non-profit sector as a social worker, and her experience in that field has lent itself to her incredible ability to truly connect with each and every one of her clients.

Below are her insider tips on how to prepare to sell your home!

1. Decluttering/Minimizing

Pack away non-essentials that you don’t use on a regular basis, and toss items that you have no use for. Minimizing your belongings is crucial for the selling process as it makes your home look less cluttered, thus showing off all of the space it has to offer.

2. Painting

A fresh coat of paint on the walls is a perfect, cost-efficient way to update your home. Bright, neutral colors are always a safe bet as they create the appearance of a more spacious and welcoming environment. And don't limit yourself to the walls--painting the cabinets is a great way to brighten up the space as well.

3. Cleaning

Take it day by day and one room at a time, but be sure to be thorough. Don’t forget–you can always hire a professional if you’re feeling overwhelmed. Cleanliness is something that appeals to every buyer, so dedicate quite a bit of time and energy to this step.

4. Staging/Landscaping

When it comes to staging, it’s important to keep it simple. This applies to colors, decor, and layout. You want to create a neutral space so that potential buyers can create their own vision for the home. It’s best if knick-knacks, pictures, and other personal items are tucked away or at least minimized.

As for landscaping, curb appeal is huge. Plant flowers, powerwash, lay down fresh mulch, trim hedges, and make sure your lawn is nice and tidy.

5. Photographing

Keep curtains and blinds open in order to let in as much natural light as possible. Capture rooms from different angles, and be sure to photograph from corners as this maximizes the appearance of space. Professional cameras produce the best results, but if you don’t have one you could always hire a photographer to help you out.
