The Upper Room, a Family Resource Center, has provided services to strengthen individuals and families throughout Southern NH since 1986. From the beginning, Upper Room programming has grown and developed in response to the changing needs of our community.
Anna Willis and Claire Hamilton co-founders, began the incredible work of our organization in July 1986. After a a dream that Claire had, in which she dreamed of a place that would help people in need, she went immediately to Anna and they began their plans to start their work. Together, the two found “a little place with an upstairs room” , which became “The Upper Room”. Starting out helping families by helping parents, The Upper Room quickly took on helping teen parents, and supporting the needs of at risk youth. The Upper Room continues to be a place of healing, education and connection, which were it’s original tenets.
It is our vision that we work to create a strong, vibrant and self sustaining community where conflict and hunger, homelessness and poverty, and ignorance and intolerance no longer exist. We look to the day where all families thrive and children have within their reach the tools to succeed. We will work to achieve our vision by living our mission and honoring our values each day.
We aspire to be an organization that:
- Is responsive to the community
- Is compassionate and non-judgmental
- Respects diversity
- Empowers each individual and family
- Works as a team
- Encourages innovative and creative ideas
- Maintains strong ethics and integrity
