THE LONDONDERRY POSITIVITY PROJECT

A positive approach to success in school

By By Judy Massey, aka Nani August 4, 2021

When Kendall Wilson thought about beginning her freshman year at Londonderry High School in the Class of 2022, she admits that she had a difficult time.

“I struggled with anxiety.  It was rough,” she explains.

Her school advisor suggested that she join the Positivity Project in school. She refused.

“I can’t believe that I am now leading that club as my senior project (before I graduate.)”

The project began as a senior project two years ago. Last year senior Brooke Wrobel took over leadership of the club. The year was challenging, but the club still met during Covid quarantine via Google and group chats. After Brooke’s  graduation in 2021, leadership fell to Kendall who had joined not so much to relieve her own anxiety, but to help others.

“We’re looking for members right now. With our weekly meetings members can build confidence, and make school more positive,” says Kendall.

“We have students from all classes, so for freshmen it’s almost like having an older sibling in school.”

Each year the club works with a faculty or staff advisor. This year Kendall’s senior project and club advisor is English teacher Brittany Borgatti.

As part of encouraging freshmen to join the Positivity Project as soon as school begins, Kendall decided to spread the word via social media. She contacted the Londonderry Mothers’ Group and has received “lots of messages.”

And does the project meet its goals? Kendall, that struggling anxious freshman, is now a confident incoming senior who works two jobs, has already begun planning club discussions for every week, and has maintained a 4.0 average every year in high school.

Kendall offers a message to students and their families.

“We can all make the school a better place.”

And she’s positive about that.
