JULY 14th is Bastille Day! It's a day filled with great history and an opportunity to learn about another culture while having some family fun!
HISTORY
The Bastille was a state prison on the east side of Paris, representing the dictatorship of the country. On July 14, 1789, soldiers stormed the Bastille, which became one of the main events to start the French Revolution. The French celebrate this holiday with immense pride as it represents their path to freedom.
In Paris, the day is celebrated with traditions of dancing, singing, parades, and fireworks. These traditions have spread to the states as well.
